What it is, who it is for, why it exists
OLIVE is a student success app built for Nigerian students. Free to use, no adverts, nothing to install. Five minutes with this document and you will be able to explain it to anybody.

Ask anything on the syllabus in ordinary words. It answers at the student's level and shows the working.

Purpose
Two students sit in the same class with the same ability, and one still pulls ahead. The difference is almost never talent.

Vision
The goal is simple and it is not modest. Every Nigerian student with a phone should have a tutor, an exam coach and an opportunity desk on it, whether or not anybody in their life can pay for one.
Not a cheaper version of what wealthy students get. The same thing, given away, and built well enough that nobody has to apologise for it being free.
Not downloads. A student who understood the topic, sat the paper with confidence, found the scholarship and chose the right course.
Deeper subject coverage, more schools, more reviewed opportunities, and the same product reaching undergraduates, corps members and job seekers.
Audience
One account follows a student through the whole journey. Nobody is asked to start again.

The name
And then it does something quietly clever. The five areas along the bottom of the app are Overview, Learn, Improve, Village and Essentials. Their first letters spell the name a second time, so a student learns the whole product without being taught it. The meaning above is what OLIVE is. The navigation is where it lives.
A crowded app teaches a student that they are not clever enough to use it. Five plain areas, one action at a time, and nothing on the screen that is only there to look impressive.
A browser, on the low end phones students actually carry. Nothing to install, no store, no waiting. A student who has opened it once keeps working when the connection drops.

In practice
This is what use looks like. It is ordinary on purpose, because that is the point.
She opens OLIVE and it shows one thing to do today, based on the paper she is sitting and what she has been struggling with.
She photographs the handout she did not follow, uploads it, and asks OLIVE to explain chapter four in plain words.
Twenty practice questions. Four wrong. Each one comes back with the reasoning, not just a red mark, so she sees where the thinking broke.
A scholarship for her state appears on the board, checked by a person at DDE, with the source and the closing date attached.
Nobody had to buy anything, and nobody had to know somebody. That is the whole product in one day.
Principles
These are not marketing lines. They are decisions already built into the product, and they are the reason schools and parents trust it.
OLIVE is free to use, and the student who cannot pay for help is exactly the student it was built for. Schools and partners carry the cost, not families.
No advertising anywhere in the product. A student studying is not an audience to be sold to.
Name, email, class, exam track and study activity. That is what support needs. Nothing is passed to advertisers, and an account can be deleted on request.
OLIVE does not write assessed work. It says so in one sentence, then uses the space to teach the material and show what a strong answer contains.
It can be wrong, and it says so. Deadlines, cut off marks and opportunities come from the reviewed board with a source, never invented by a model.
When work needs judgement, Village puts a student in front of a tutor, an alumnus or the DDE team.

One app, every stage
A student tells OLIVE where they are once. Everything after that adjusts: the words in an answer, how long it runs, and what the screen offers first.

The heart of it
No jargon, no lecture. Plain words, short sentences, UK spelling because that is what Nigerian examiners mark, and the working shown when a question needs it.
Upload a handout, a past paper or a chapter and OLIVE reads it before answering, so the explanation matches what your teacher actually set.
The same question gets a different answer for a WAEC candidate and a postgraduate. The student sets it once.
A student can ask for a quick answer or set a length. Ask for two thousand words and it writes about two thousand words, not a plan for them.
Asked to write assessed work, it says so in one sentence, then teaches the material and shows what a strong answer contains.
When it is not certain it says so, and it shows where an answer came from rather than sounding confident and being wrong.
Trust
Every scholarship group and every school forum in Nigeria is full of dead links, closed deadlines and outright scams. The board exists because a student cannot tell which is which, and should not have to.
Scholarships, bursaries, exam news and vacancies are gathered from the sources that actually publish them.
Somebody at DDE opens the link, confirms the source and the closing date, and rejects anything that cannot be verified.
Each item carries its source, the date DDE posted it, and the date the link was last checked.
Expired items come off the board, so a student is never sent to a deadline that passed last month.
No item reaches a student because a machine found it. A person put their name to it first, and that is the slowest and most valuable thing OLIVE does.
The parts people forget
Tutors, reading partners, alumni who sat the same paper, and the DDE team. A machine is enough for most questions and useless for some.
A browser, not an app store. Low end phones, poor connections, and a shell that keeps working when the network drops.
A student who has not signed in still gets a working app, with their conversation kept on their own device.
